Mission: Breakthrough Technologies Institute is an independent, educational organization that strives to identify and promote environmental and energy technologies that can improve the human condition.

History: BTI was established in 1993 to ensure that emerging technologies have a voice in environmental and energy policy debates. Our current focus is on air quality, climate change, energy efficiency, and energy independence. Our programs have won international recognition and numerous awards.

Our Approach: BTI's approach combines independent analysis with sophisticated communications strategies that target policy-makers, key stakeholders, and the public. BTI has

  • sponsored briefings for members of Congress and their staff;
  • developed workshops and seminars for state and local audiences;
  • served as a media source for energy and transportation issues; and
  • provided numerous presentations before local, national, and international audiences.

BTI maintains good relations with individuals and organizations on all sides of the environmental and energy debate. BTI has initiated successful policy coalitions and convened numerous workshops, conferences and other exchanges.
